The Cemetery of Ixelles

When the cemetery of Ixelles (also called the cemetery of the Artists) is mentioned, it’s usually in reference to the neighborhood located in the south of Brussels.

But the name also refers to one of the most important cemeteries in the city. Come and take a stroll here and you’ll find the names of several personalities buried here, including the famous architect Victor Horta and the painter and sculptor Constantin Meunier. Wordl famous violonist Eugene Ysaye, Ernest Solvay, founder of one of the world leading chemistry company Solvay et Cie or French Minister of War in exile in Belgium, General Boulander, are also buried here.

Despite what you might be lead to believe from its name, this district is very lively thanks to the many students who live here. The countless bars, cafes and restaurants are living proof!
