A La mort subite betyder: 'det plötsliga döendet'.

Omkring 1910 fanns det en kafé som hette 'LA COUR ROYALE'. Bland dess många kunder fanns många anställda som arbetade på Belgiens nationalbank. Dessa anställda tillbringade sin tid på puben med att spela ett dykspel som kallades '421'. Innan de återvände till kontoret spelade de en snabb sista omgång och den som förlorade kallades för 'MORT SUBITE' eller det plötsliga döendet.

Mycket snart blev detta namn välkänt och när kaféet flyttade till denna aktuella adress 1928, döpte kaféet sina egna öl med detta konstiga namn.
