But if you want to sit down for something special, the Ixelles area has a surprising mix of spots that mix Belgian tradition with flavors from the world , try a lauded spot like La Paix or the slightly more offbeat Le Chou de Bruxelles.

And trust me, Brussels’ dining scene doesn’t always get the credit it deserves. If you’re in the mood for something quick and casual, the markets like Place du Jeu de Balle offer cheap and cheerful food stalls that still give you a real taste of the city.

Pro tip: if you want to try traditional Belgian dishes, look for menus in French,sometimes the best places don’t bother translating. And check opening hours , many restaurants close between lunch and dinner, so plan ahead if you’re like me and get snacky at weird times.
