Located in Brussels, Jayu offers a unique dining experience that transports guests to the culinary world of Korea, envisioned by renowned influences and memories gathered during travels. Each evening, twelve diners are invited to partake in a meticulously choreographed gastronomic journey consisting of twelve acts, at a communal counter setting. These distinct phases are designed to unfurl the essence of Korean flavors, intertwined with local ingredients, creating a menu that reflects a harmonious fusion of cultures.
The distinct character of Jayu is inspired by a theatrical concept where precision and timing play crucial roles. Each service commences promptly with two seatings available nightly, emphasizing the importance of punctuality to fully enjoy all elements of the experience. The intimate setting and structured event highlight the skillful crafting of each dish, providing an engaging and immersive atmosphere that parallels attending a live theatrical performance.
Jayu does not focus on serving traditional Korean dishes. Instead, the menu is an exploration of tastes inspired by experiences such as strolls through Insadong streets or encounters with influential figures. These experiences shape the creative vision behind dishes that may only exist here, blending diverse ingredients sourced locally to evoke the spirit and taste of Korea. The dining experience includes themes like nature's embrace, temple tastes, or the interaction of sea and earth flavors, each act designed to surprise and stimulate the senses.
This venue, with its innovative approach, suits those who appreciate culinary artistry and a structured dining experience without distractions. Jayu's focus on timeliness and detailed execution offers a captivating option for visitors and locals alike seeking an evening unlike any other.
Reviews
Incredible experience and beautiful presentation of each dish. Every single dish was absolutely delicious, however either the portions could be a bit bigger as just about each dish was a bite or so, or perhaps more courses. Left hungry and had to get *second dinner elsewhere. Delightful take on Korean*French flavors.
That was a unique dinning experience, it is very theatrical. The food was amazing, the service was exceptional. The only remark is the wine pairing which was not to our liking but this was just a small detail that cannot affect our overall experience.
We had a table of 4, the small plates were very tasteful, minimalistic pure. The drinks were often surprising, but we missed the authentic Corean cuisine a bit and the touch of a true Corean masterchef, as announced on the website. Altough a cosy and delicious evening.
A once in a lifetime experience - once again. Thanks to the great Chef San Degeimbre. His creations are even more spectacular in his home kitchen at L'air du Temps. But here it is also the magical intimate atmosphere with great personal service, that makes each of the 12 acts memorable.
From the very first moment, Jayu sweeps you into something far beyond dining… it’s pure theatre for the senses. The intimacy of the space, the rhythm of the service, and the artistry behind each plate create an atmosphere that feels elegant, immersive, and unforgettable. Each of the 12 acts unfolded like chapters in a story, where Korean inspiration meets the richness of Belgian seasonal produce, this all paired with interesting, sometimes surprising drinks, adding just that final touch to the flavours exploding on your palette. The balance of flavours, textures, and creativity left me amazed time after time, somehow a mind-blowing culinary journey that lingers long after the last bite.
