Visited during Ghent festival so had a more limited menu. Delicious mussels, great service, and great table outside by the canal. Would like to return when the festival isn't on and try more of the menu
Mussels were good but not the best. They give a lot of butter offerings with the complementary bread but the butter also wasn't a very good quality. Fries were super soggy and I was given almost all small pieces. This Dame Blanche was by far the worst I've ever had :( terrible 'puffy' textured artificial tasting and feeling vanilla ice cream with bad chocolate quality and way over-whipped cream. I could only have 1 bite until i felt a bit sick. The best thing I ate was the mushroom sauce that i ordered on the side. It is pretty inside, near the main touristy area. I would recommend to just get mussels and nothing else really.
Very high quality establishment. We were looking for some authentic Belgium food and had multiple recommendations for Allegro Moderato. The food was a bit rich for my pallet but tasted good. Fortunately, the meal is served with a wonderful fresh bread plate. The Bread plate came with duck spread, butters of edible flowers, lobster, and garlic. This helped to satisfy the forthcoming rich foods. There were also Green Olvives, pickles and pickled onions. We had extra bread which saved us from indigestion later. If you can handle a rich meal, it won't be a problem. We ordered the Shrimp croquet as an appetizer. It was great, just rich. The draft Belgium beer, Fourchette, was also a good neutralizer and an outstanding beverage. For dinner, we had the Beef Cheek in wine sauce with mashed potatoes. Excellent entree but still a bit rich. The restaurant is located on the canal with window views of the Gent "skyline" next to The Post Office, now a hotel. The inside atmosphere is delightful and they still use real candles throughout the restaurant setting the feel. Servers were outstanding and did everything possible to make our dining experience exceptional. Great vibe and feel; also where the dignitaries eat when they are in town. Oddly, when I checked Google, it showed "busier than normal"; when we arrived, there were literally 2 tables taken. Another couple followed us in, so the restaurant was not full at all. Google needs to check their matrix on reporting. We almost changed restaurants when we saw the occupancy and it was pouring rain, so we didn't want to walk around getting wet looking for a restaurant. Fortunately, we went anyway because it was close to our hotel.
My family and I had the most enjoyable evening at Allegro Moderato. The dishes were both innovative and delicious. We enjoyed the Carpaccio Wagyu as well as the Filet Pur. The Carpaccio Wagyu was delightful and had a jello-like citrus and vinegar element. Similarly, the Filet Pur was absolutely divine—the texture, its pepper sauce, and the overall taste and presentation were lovely—accompanied by a delicious selection of wine. Moreover, the restaurant’s setting and atmosphere were wonderful. The owner of the restaurant was also very friendly and attentive. Whether you are looking to celebrate a special evening or simply wanting to enjoy a night out with your friends or family, Allegro Moderato is the place for you.
