I had a very enjoyable evening at Menssa. I chose the vegetarian menu with the optional pigeon course. The service was friendly and attentive, and both the Champagne Blanc de Blancs and the Burgundy Pinot Noir were excellent choices with the menu. The meal started on a remarkable note. The radish granité with smoked horseradish cream was one of the most original and memorable dishes I have tasted in recent years: refreshing, vibrant and completely unique. The Bintje gnocchi were another highlight, incredibly light and almost melting in the mouth. The artichoke ravioli was the only course that disappointed me slightly. I found it a little too oily and somewhat lacking in flavour. The pointed cabbage tart was pleasant, while the pigeon was beautifully cooked and technically impeccable. My only culinary reservation is that, over the course of the savoury menu, I would have enjoyed a little more variation in the flavour profile, as several dishes seemed to explore a similar register. The dessert, however, brought the meal to a wonderful conclusion. The contrast between the ice-cold apple and celery granité and the firm, creamy pea mousse was superb, making for a refreshing and elegant finish. My only real criticism concerns the atmosphere. The open kitchen certainly creates energy, but together with the conversations around the counter it resulted in a rather high noise level. Personally, I would also have preferred more comfortable seating than the high stools for a meal of this length. Overall, I found Menssa to be a restaurant with a clear culinary identity and a high level of technical execution. Not every course resonated with me equally, but the best dishes were truly memorable. A very worthwhile experience, and one that I am glad to have discovered.
A delightful experience from the appetizers until desserts. Loved every bite and atmosphere. Also much appreciation for the personalized non-alcoholic drink pairing!
A good discovery in Woluwe St Pierre. We had a delightful dinner at Menssa on a Saturday night. The staff were very welcoming and explained the dishes well. The chef constantly walked around and welcomed the customers. The bread was still hot when it was served - 👍🏼👍🏼👍🏼👍🏼👍🏼! They’re not trying too hard to be fancy, which is good in my view. The mignardises in the soupier was a nice cute touch at the end of the meal. You get to choose your knife for your main dish which was pretty cool! The only things that can be improved are: 1) the rhubarb dessert (it was very sour and I just forced myself to eat the rhubarb because the other parts of the dessert dish were ok); 2) the cheese plate - it was not so special and there was too much romarin in the dish without adding anything special to it; 3) I did not taste the Kalamansi in the langoustine dish (I’m from the Philippines and the taste of Kalamansi is very strong so it would be better to make the kalamansi come out more in the dish); 4) it was very hot inside the restaurant (maybe have some electric fans or install aircon ?? especially during hot summer days, it will be like an oven inside and unpleasant to eat); 5) there’s no proper signage for the entrance, so we entered where the big garbage containers were (not such a pleasant welcoming sight) and only later did we realize that there was a small gate for the entrance/exit. You’ll pay an arm and a leg, but it’s quite worth it.
Incredible experience. We were lucky to be able to taste a special menu of the most iconic dishes of chef Christoph's career. Saying that expectations were very high and these were surpassed would be an understatement. Fantastic food journey paired with lovely wines. Both the food and service were spot on. If Menssa maintains these standards their second star is sure to come next year.
This was probably one of the best experiences of my life ! From the moment you enter you are taken care of and it just feels right. The ambience and way we were seated with the open kitchen gives this atmosphere a more social touch to it. The food was perfect and carefully presented. Each plate was pure magic. I truly enjoyed this experience and would highly recommend !
