Delicious lunch and an amazing regular waiter, but let down by a bumpy arrival. We love Bouillon Bruxelles and make it a point to eat here every single year. Usually, we visit during Christmas, but this year we decided to give the summer season a go and popped in for lunch. The Good: As always, the food was absolutely delicious. What really saved our lunch was a fantastic English-speaking waiter who stepped in to look after us. He was absolutely brilliant—he went right through our entire order line by line to make sure everything was completely correct and amended a couple of mistakes without any fuss. I actually recognised him from our previous visits, and his service was amazing as always. The Bumpy Part: Our arrival felt a bit flat. It wasn't the usual tall manager that we see, and this manager seemed rather unwelcoming when we checked in. Later, our initial waiter brought us a starter we hadn't ordered. As we politely asked what the dish was, this manager walked past, asked "what's going on?" and began over-explaining the dishes. Since we had ordered very simple, classic plates, it wasn't necessary and felt a bit patronising when we were just trying to gently sort out a simple mix-up. Overall: A bit of an awkward start, but the food and service ended up being good. Our waiter looked after us well, and we would be willing to go back.
All the food we had here was reasonably priced and tasty. The meatballs came with a sweet and tangy sauce. Its texture was more like meatloaf than meatball in my opinion. The vol au vent portion is very large and can perhaps feed 2 people. I was particularly surprised by the Asian/Japanese inspired leeks. Very good but not something I'd expect to see on menu loaded with traditional foods. The fries here were just OK and were definitely a level below what you'd get at a place specializing in fries (frituur). Our waiter was very skilled and seemed to know everyone passing in the street or entering the restaurant. The crowd seems to be a mix of international tourists and French-speaking clientele.
This was truly a magnificent dinner. From the time Joel greeted us and sat us down it could not be faulted. The design of the menu in keeping with Belgium’s rich cartoon culture yo the variety which Joel was willing to explain offer advice. Added to it with the table outside with the present high temperatures it was most enjoyable watching the passing parade. A great night out!
The service staff were very friendly. We came here to try Brussels cuisine. The vol-au-vent was served cold, but when we informed the waiter, they replaced it immediately. It was decent to try once, but we probably wouldn’t try it again.
Dining here alone in Brussels turned out to be a wonderful experience. The atmosphere is warm and elegant, with a classic European charm that makes you feel comfortable the moment you walk in. The food was absolutely delicious; rich flavors, perfectly cooked, and beautifully presented. The fries were crispy and the dish paired perfectly with a glass of red wine. What really stood out was the attentive and friendly service. Even as a solo guest, I felt very welcomed and well taken care of. It’s the kind of place where you can relax, enjoy your meal slowly, and appreciate the ambiance. If you’re in Brussels and looking for a cozy place with great food and a lovely atmosphere, I highly recommend stopping by. I’ll definitely come back next time I’m in the city.
