Went there for my birthday celebration for lunch. Took the 4 course lunch menu for 2. Food was OK... a bit disappointing for a Michelin star place. To much foamy stuff. Small dishes. Overpriced. Glasses of wine were very small.. stitchy really. Dessert was the best dish. I'm sure they can do better.
I had a lunch at EssenCiel last November. The dishes were beautiful and full of flavour. Cocktails were nice, and the wine selection offered plenty of great choices to pair with the meal. Overall, a very nice dining experience!
Great food, though a few months on we can only really recall maybe one dish clearly, plus the brioche — an absolute standout and easily the most memorable item of the evening. On the service side, the hostess made a fairly basic mistake when introducing the dishes, which felt a little unprofessional at this price point. Overall a solid dining experience, and not below par for a Michelin one-star in our experience, but we were hoping for a bit more.
Excellent fine-dining (Michelin Star) restaurant run by Chef Niels Brants and his wife Romina Charels in the city centre of Leuven. At their opening in 2013 they were located in a small place in the Muntstraat, then they moved to the Naamsestraat and in 2023 they moved to an elegant mansion with beautiful garden in the Bondgenotenlaan. I have been to all of these locations in the heart of Leuven and I can confirm that their current "home" is the best! I have eaten there twice, one time for dinner during summer in their wonderful garden and another time for a lunch inside during wintertime and on none of these occasions I have been disappointed. The service was always superb and the food was truly exquisite: every single dish from appetizer to dessert was delicious and beautifully composed and served, a real culinary piece of art! A must-visit for foodies and fine-dining lovers!
