A very enjoyable dinner and a well-deserved Michelin star. I opted for the 5-course menu with the cheese selection instead of dessert. The cuisine is firmly rooted in classical French-Belgian gastronomy: excellent products, strong technical execution, generous portions and very good sauces. The highlight of the evening was undoubtedly the Challans duck with warm foie gras, apricots and girolles. The foie gras was exceptional: meltingly soft inside with a beautifully crisp crust. The apricots practically melted in the mouth and brought freshness and balance to the dish. The lamb was also cooked perfectly and was a fine example of traditional Michelin-starred cuisine. Earlier courses were enjoyable as well. The combination of marinated lisette, burrata and crispy langoustine was particularly successful. The maigre with Mediterranean garnishes was technically accomplished, although the curry sauce somewhat dominated the fish and the caviar added little to the overall experience. The atmosphere is relaxed and less formal than in some other Michelin-starred establishments. The dining room is pleasant and comfortable. The garden is charming for an aperitif. Overall, Maison Marit strikes me as a restaurant that excels through craftsmanship rather than innovation. Diners who appreciate classic gastronomy executed with skill and generosity will have a very satisfying evening. A strong one-star restaurant, and a very pleasant experience.
